The ultimate UCI World Championships experience: ride the roads yourself!
The 2021 UCI Road World Championships are bringing all the big names in cycling to Flanders. But the UCI World Championships is more than just watching the top riders of today and tomorrow. Everyone who wants to will also get the unique opportunity to ride parts of the UCI World Championships course by bike themselves, no matter what type of cyclist you are.
What better way to immerse yourself in the UCI World Championships atmosphere than to ride the course yourself! In the UCI World Championships week (from 18 to 26 September), no less than four stages are planned where everyone can feel like a world champion. From now on registrations are open!
Explore the time trial course between Knokke-Heist and Bruges
On Saturday 18 September, the day before the elite men ride their time trial, you can explore that time trial course yourself during the Flanders 2021 Ride Knokke-Heist - Brugge. From the start at the coast of Knokke-Heist until Westkapelle the course is completely traffic-free. Thereafter you'll cycle to Bruges via Damme, along the Damse Vaart and the Leopoldvaart to 't Zand in Bruges where you ride over the (also traffic-free) official finish and that’s where you return to Knokke-Heist.
Or you can turn it around and start from Bruges for the exact same 65 km route or opt for the shorter loop from Bruges or Knokke-Heist (30 or 37km respectively). The world championship village of Damme serves as a place of supply or rest for each tour. The course is flat and perfect for recreational cyclists, but also for occasional cyclists or families.
Experience the final of the road races
On Thursday 23 September, the sporty cyclist is welcome in Leuven for the Flanders 2021 Ride Leuven. From the finish city of the road rides, everyone can discover the final of the UCI World Championships. You start off by riding over the official finish line: undoubtedly a unique experience and perhaps a golden selfie moment. You’ll ride the complete local loop in and around the city that has been made completely traffic-free for the occasion.
Then you’ll discover the Flandrien loop where for comfort and safety, there is one-way traffic on the various hills. The 60 km tour returns from the hill zone to Leuven. Those who have chosen for the 100km get an extra loop east of Leuven before returning to the city to finish. One or two feed zones will be installed along the way with some regional Flemish Brabant products.
Cycling with the whole family in Antwerp
On Saturday afternoon, 25 September, a true cycling happening is scheduled in Antwerp: the Flanders 2021 Ride Antwerp. You can discover the start of the road races on a completely traffic-free route of 10 km. There are various stops with musical entertainment and numerous activities. A wonderful opportunity for young and old to dive into the UCI World Championships atmosphere and it is completely free.
Networking in the VIP peloton
For those who want to combine cycling on the final course in and around Leuven with the race and with networking, there is the Flanders 2021 VIP Ride on Sunday morning 26 September. Two pelotons of 100 participants get to take part in a guided tour with convoy cars. You start your ride after a big Flandrien breakfast and afterwards you get to digest 65 kilometres with 10 hills. At the finish the next part of your VIP experience (with lunch at the finish) awaits you.
Registration for all tours is possible as of now via this link. There you will also find more details for the various tours.
