Flanders 2021 has finally begun!
Saturday 18 September 2021
It's here at last. Flanders 2021 was opened today, around 11 a.m. on Albert Beach in Knokke-Heist. Under a dazzling sun and with great enthusiasm, prominent figures such as Minister of Sport Ben Weyts, and from Flanders, appeared on the podium alongside the mayors of all the host cities to join the Local Organizing Committee and Flemish cycling legends Patsy Magerman and Johan Museeuw in launching the 100th anniversary of the UCI Road World Championships.
The riders were also briefly glimpsed on the roads between Knokke-Heist and Bruges, racing their final training meters on the time trial circuit. Tested, set ablaze and approved by the very best! In short, along with the time trial specialists we have already been transported to the higher realms of the UCI Road World Championships.
Naturally, the future world champions had to be present at the start of the UCI Road World Championships’ 100th anniversary. After the ceremony on the stage of Knokke-Heist, some 120 children aged between 12 and 18 set off for ’t Zand in Bruges wearing the jerseys of the participating countries.
Flanders 2021 is ready to make it an unforgettable week!
